America, the not so beautiful

My country has finally destroyed itself.

This is essay #94

By now, you’ve likely read a whole lot in the aftermath of America losing her freedom and succumbing to authoritarianism. It has affected us all deeply. Thanks for being here and indulging me as I share my two cents. If you’re not already a subscriber, you would honor me by signing up. ✌️

“I feel like I’ve been gut punched”

“I’m terrified for my life”

“I called my therapist”

“I worry for all of humanity”

“I feel very lost right now”

“I can’t stop crying”

“I feel suicidal”

“I didn’t sleep a wink”

These are just a few of the sentiments I read the morning after America finally took her leap into darkness.

“I feel suicidal” Yes. Someone said that.

Sentient humans with even a modicum of intellect are sharing their feelings not just all over America, but around the world.

That a majority of people have chosen a felon over a highly educated, competent, and experienced woman is breathtaking.

A few thoughts as to how we got here:

The state we find ourselves in today is partly due to the consistent erosion of our public schools over the years. This is by design of right wing politicians. When Dump (I will never call him by his real name) gets into office, he will dismantle the Department of Education and defund Head Start.

He said so… read his Project 2025.

A national abortion ban will be enacted. And women will die. They already are.

Social Security will be gutted. Medicare will be gone. Seniors will die.

The Affordable Care Act will be replaced by Medicare Advantage, a horrendous for-profit insurance plan. Prescription drug prices will no longer be controlled. And Medicaid will be stripped down, leaving needy people with little healthcare options. Read about it all here.

The corporate-owned media controlled the narrative to fatten their profit margins by treating Dump as any other candidate, not the proven criminal and grifter he is. An appalling lack of journalistic integrity.

I lay much of our national demise squarely at the feet of the press.

Propaganda is insidious in our country. America has been fed lies and disinformation on a daily basis. In Canada, they don’t see what we’re seeing. Russia has been very successful in twisting our feeble brains into hating anyone who isn’t white. Hence, white supremacy is alive and well.

So when Dump starts deporting the very people who put food on your table, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Americans are an entitled bunch… they have no idea about other countries, their governments, or their history. I’ll wager that the Americans who voted for Dump don’t know what fascism is, or what happened in Germany in 1933, or what a tariff is.

These people are about to find out.

A segment of our citizenry is more concerned about the price of cheeseburgers and gas, and keeping their guns… they don’t understand the concept of inflation and corporate price gouging.

Our veterans (you know, the losers and suckers?) fought in World War Two to fight against the fascism Dump is bringing to America. I actually know a WW2 veteran who voted for him. WTF?

That, my friends, is a testament to the power of propaganda.

Misogyny is stronger in America than I thought. I think even women must hate women given that a bunch of them voted for a rapist, not a college educated, experienced former Attorney General. I can’t say for sure, but I suspect even my own daughter voted for Dump. That breaks my heart.

Tim (my love) told me, “We get the government we deserve.” He was right.

He passed away before he could see how our country has disintegrated.

So when I read these comments about sobbing, feeling depressed and suicidal, I see we are no longer America the beautiful. We have become depraved, selfish, and willfully ignorant. And our enemies are delighted.

But at least while your wife bleeds out in the hospital parking lot, that cheeseburger you had at lunch cost less, right?

The billionaires won this round. Democracy is done.

I likely won’t live long enough to see freedom restored in America.

What an ugly country.
