I'm so grateful to have found you! Nothing inspires me more than people making art--ESPECIALLY when they also have day jobs. Creativity is how I've come to know myself... if I weren't writing, I honestly don't know who I'd be.

I hear you. I've been in advertising all my life, and now, after selling my agency back in the Midwest, I'm settled into freelance copywriting for my day job. Substack is a wonderful platform to meet new folks and be inspired by their worldview and creative notions. I'm really happy you're here. And thank you! ✌️💙

Hi, Susan I saved the videos to watch later. I'll let you know what I think then.

Looks like so much fun. I love rock, some heavy metal, but I turned into an old fart and I love jazz, especially Diana Krall who's in my town tonight, Amy Winehouse, Tony Bennett. I attended one rock concert at my university 1975. Some really good groups. Wild times.

I admit I was shocked I stayed up past my bedtime! 😂 But you gotta do it now and then!

And I cried when Tony died-saw him in St. Louis once. Magnificent.

Wow! Susan is a metal fan. An old-school 3 piece rock and roll band. (Rush, Triumph, ZZ Top). Great photos.

Always have been. Once, I got backstage passes to meet Aerosmith during their 9 lives Tour and because I'm such a groupie, got all their autographs. Joe "Fucking" Perry snarled at me and asked, "Who are you with? The fucking Chamber of Commerce?" 😂😂 Swoon. 😍 Give Koritni a listen. I adore them. 🤟

I love all kinds of music. Jazz is my favorite. I saw the Joe Perry Project at an outdoor show back in the 80s. That was when Aerosmith broke up as a result of addiction. Fortunately, they all got clean and got back together. "The fucking Chamber of Commerce". 😂😂😂 We need to get together. Fun will be had. Kortini, I'll check them out.🤟🤟🤟

Ahhhh... I remember when the drugs and booze caught up with them. We definitely need to meet up. Hope to be headed west at the end of April. I'll keep you posted!

I'm looking forward to it. Here's a little taste of Columbus. It's the world's coolest radio station. WCBE 90.5. Wide open playlist. You'll hear all genres of music. You can get it on the Tune In app or at wcbe.org. It's similar to WXPN in Philly.😺😺❤

Excellent! I'll tune in! (I was only in Columbus one time and stayed overnight in the Short North district. It was very cool!)

There are lots of cool neighborhoods. Great local music scene. WCBE plays a lot of local music.

Lucky you! There is something very therapeutic in listening to rock for me too, perhaps it's because it takes me back to my more carefree (oblivious 😎) years. I stayed up way late last night being soothed by guitars, gravelly voices and familiar lyrics of days gone by, glad you got a session in too!

Susan Niemann's avatar

There's nothing like live music, is there? And every generation is making it... loud, gravelly voices, intense guitar rights, throbbing drums... and the joy in the faces of those making the music make it so worthwhile! Keep rockin', Shire! 🤟🎸🥁

Thank you for reminding us to respect, and express, our inner selves. The result doesn’t have to be beautiful, or marketable, or political, or anything specific - but whatever it is that gets us in flow and helps our blood hum. I was a graphic artist and typographer, and everything I produced had to be fucking perfect, so I personally need to be coached and sweet talked into believing in my own vision, and into taking risks - kind of like a toddler. I appreciate your POV and your sense of humor!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Isn't that the truth! As we get older we become more intimidated and overthink! My daughter teaches art to grade schoolers and what they produce is fantastic. Because they don't know they can't!

Nice!

I miss living in Tucson. There was a venue there - The Rialto - that had just AMAZING bands come and play. Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Queensryche, and other big names would just book there.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Oh WOW! Thanks! I love Tucson. I have dear friends who live at the base of the Catalinas. He was one of the early producers of the Jazz Festival they have in January. What a tremendous event. ❤️

Tucson was a wonderful place to live. Great food, good people, and relatively sane politics. Gabby Giffords was from there, and watching her beat Martha McSally like a rented mule every other year was tons of fun too

HAHA! I remember Gabby Giffords, the shooting, etc. Horrible. My friends were big fundraisers for her.Hmmmm... maybe that ought to be my next life adventure! 🤷🏼‍♀️
