I don't know much...
But I do know right from wrong.
Honesty over deceit.
Kindness over cruelty.
So when you’re being served from the buffet of bullshit by today’s GOP, if you’re a thinking human, you should be appalled.
But are you?
There are plenty of rationales to explain away the heinous behavior of this current crop of Republicans. But I’m not buying any of it. Basic human decency should tell you it’s not ok to stand idly by and watch a woman and her children drown in a river. Or a white cop hold his knee on the neck of a black man. Or deny a pregnant woman life-saving medical care.
What in the actual fuck is happening to us?
Riveting headlines keep viewers in a sweaty frenzy while we’re missing what’s really important. Our humanity.
John Pavlovitz has written a beautiful piece about this:
“in order to embrace the MAGA movement, you cannot allow anyone to enjoy being alive.”
The GOP is capitalizing on our inability to be kind, decent, and honest.
Diane wrote a short piece about empathy, nicely summed up as:
“Empathy allows us to step into another’s shoes and walk his walk, to feel as we are experiencing the ups and downs of his life, to see as he sees. It’s a quality lacking as we stay alone in our small insulated family or group of friends. We become hardened to anyone but ourselves and our difficulties. We ‘have’ no time for anyone but ourselves. We become critics, haters, bigots, or worse.”
Throughout our history, we’ve demonstrated what pathetic, primitive creatures we are. Religion and politics are the foundations of our inhumanity. Instead of destroying ourselves, how about we begin to let go of our collective anger and just leave each other alone?
Think ahead to the first blooms that are coming… like this.

MAGAts are miserable people. I refuse to let these mopes drag me down. Good to see your first post.
Susan Nieman: You express it right on, and I share your admiration for the work of "Diane K-24".
Again, you share such a breathtaking picture!
I am new to your column, but you speak to my heart, and I share your love of beauty.
