Music in my email... making a long distance romance work.
Tim's Playlist #6 The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
This is my 74th essay. 🎉 In less than 8 months, we are over 1915 subscribers! I am grateful for every single one of you, as this is my primary means of income. Not all are paid subscribers, but that’s cool. You’re here… and I thank you! 🥰
Music defies age and circumstances. It’s personal. Just because you get older, doesn’t mean you automatically start listening to Lawrence Welk. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that! 😂) Many of us who are 60+ are still rocking to the artists we grew up with… and looking for new stuff for our playlists.
As I’ve written, music is a great connector. When we were apart, Tim sent me so much music, broadening my limited scope. Every one of his choices had meaning to us. He knew I liked metal, great guitar work, and rock in general. And the lyrics of course, meant everything.
The sparkle in your eyes
Keeps me alive
And the sparkle in your eyes
Keeps me alive, keeps me alive
Ian Astbury, the singer with The Cult, is exactly my idea of a rock star. Strong voice, fabulous long hair, and can he sing! (Ian reminds me a little of Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, who I have always adored.) This is the longer video (6:41) of She Sells Sanctuary from 1985. It’s on their second studio record called Love, their break through album. Billy Duffy (hot!) does a fine job on guitar.
Ian’s puffy shirt reminds of the Seinfeld episode. 😂
And then, some 39 years later, The Cult performed Sanctuary on the Howard Stern Show. Not bad after all that time… they still got it.
Ian is 62 years young now. He isn’t dancing around anymore, flipping his glorious long hair. No puffy shirt. And the culottes? What’s with that? 🤷🏼♀️
Anyway, I still love it.
The sparkle in your eyes… keeps me alive. ❤️
Got a song that connects you? I’d love to hear it.

I love She Sells Sanctuary. Powerful guitars and vocals, strong beat. Sheepishly, I'll say I first heard it in an upscale strip club in Honolulu in the early '90s. The dancers liked that song.
