Save yourself from today...
Go do something you love.
Sometimes, you just gotta walk away. Normally, I’m a pretty upbeat person, but too much shitty news, hateful people, and the general state of malaise in my country have weakened my spirit. Today, it’s time to take a break and do something I love.
One thing I love is photography. Since I was a kid, I’ve loved taking pictures. Partly because I was trying to get along with my father who was an avid photographer, but also because I thought it was cool. My dad gave me an Argus C-3 film camera. A classic! Check it out!
It was jammed up and wouldn’t work, but I brought it with me anyway when I moved to the East Coast. It’s one of the few things I have that evoke positive memories of my father.
Well guess what? I had it refurbished, and NOW IT WORKS! I’ve run color and black and white film through it with surprisingly good results. Like this taken at the farm.
There’s something about film that’s sentimental and soulful, and black and white has always been my favorite way to capture the world. In addition to the Argus, I use several digital Canon models, and of course, my iPhone.
I try to be very aware of what’s around me and more often than not, I’ll find something interesting, like this stubborn fly who FAFO. 😂🪰
Or our handsome Mr. Nell trying to start up the tractor in our shed.
Pictures start conversations. They trigger your memory, and you find yourself thinking “remember when...”. When I travel, I’ll choose backroads that never disappoint.
So I’m gonna jump in my car now in search of ANYTHING that isn’t politics and hateful bullshit. Join me.
Nurture yourself and do something you love.

Great photos. It's too cold today for golf or fishing, so I'm stuck with my anger and frustration.
Good morning everyone! Beautiful photos and sentiments Susan! My only fond memories of high school, in the rural hellscape where I attempted to grow up, are of my days spent alone, in the dark room with my photos and my thoughts! Thank you for evoking this memory in me, especially today, as I am struggling. Have a great day and please share today’s photos with us soon.
