Tim's Playlist #14 --- Lone Justice

For those of you who don’t know, Tim’s Playlist is where I share songs my late partner would email me when we were apart. He was a video editor, wildly creative and kind. Tim never had a colonoscopy and at the very young age of 59, he passed from Stage 4 colon cancer. So, please, if you are 45 or older, schedule this lifesaving test. And please don’t go on about how awful the prep is… the cancer is worse.

Never heard of Lone Justice? It’s ok. I hadn’t either.

Guitarist Ryan Hedgecock and singer Maria McKee started the band in Los Angeles in 1982, doing covers. With the addition of bassist David Harrington and drummer Don Willens, they started writing their own songs. They only put out two albums before they broke up in 1987.

Maria McKee’s voice knocks it out of the park, in my opinion. Her stage presence is full of passion and high energy.

And the lyrics? They’re a love letter.

After nearly 40 years, they’ve put out another album, ‘Viva Lone Justice’, using tracks from years ago and adding to them. It’s an interesting mix of hillbilly, rock, and punk, and includes Dolly Parton hit, ‘I Will Always Love You’. You can hear it here. And read the interview with them here.
