LOVE ME, I'M A LIBERAL by Jello Biafra & Mojo Nixon & Phil Ochs

I cried when they shot John Lennon. Tears ran down my spine. And I cried when I saw "JFK,"as if I'd lost a father of mine. But Malcom-X and Ice-T had it coming. They got what they asked for this time.

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal…

I go to pro-choice rallies. Recycle my cans and jars. I'll honk if you love the Dead, and hope those funny Grunge bands become stars. But don't talk about revolution. That's going a little bit too far.

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal…

I cheered when Clinton was chosen my faith in the system reborn. I'll do anything to save our schools, if my taxes ain’t too much more. And I love Blacks and Gays and Latinos, as long as they don't move in next door.

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal…

Rush Limbaugh and the L.A.P.D., should all hang their heads in shame. I can't understand where they're at, maybe Arsenio should set them all straight. But if neighborhood watch doesn't know you, then I hope that the cops take down your name.

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal...

Yeah, I read the New Republic, and Rolling Stone and Mother Jones, too. If I vote, then it's a Democrat, with a sensible economy view. But when it comes to terrorist Arabs there’s no one more red, white, and blue!

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal…

Once I was young, had an attitude. Stickers covered the car I drove in. Even went on some direct actions, when there weren't rent-a-cops to be seen. Ah, but now I've grown older and wiser, and that's why I'm turning you in!

So love me, love me, love me, I'm a liberal…

Never heard of Kurt Vile. I liked him. What would it take for me to have his hair? I want his hair.

Susan Niemann's avatar

I want his hair, too. 🤣

Philadelphia is proud of this lad!!

Lucinda Williams. IMO, she reigns over all of them. The first time I heard one of her songs I was hooked. Still am!

Susan! You rock. 🎸

Susan Niemann's avatar

Thanks for that reminder…I forgot all about Lucinda! My designer turned me on to her… She’s tremendous!

I listen to her on repeat.

Love Sultan‘s of Swing, though Release end seventies it was a hit throughout my roaring disco 80s.

I’ve heard Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits many times, and I love Sultans of Swing. I saw them live many years ago in a concert with several other bands. It may have been with “The Who. Thanks for reminding me of the fun times I’ve had.

Jealous! That musta been an amazing show! ❤️. I’ll be seeing you soon!!

Whenever my nerves are jangled (which is pretty much daily … oh wait … maybe hourly these days) Mark Knopfler’s music seems to help. Glad it’s included here! 🩷💗

Susan Niemann's avatar

Thank you for suggesting it! He’s pretty incredible! 👏👏👏. See you soon!

Blue on Black is such a great song I’m going to add it to my playlist 🙂!

Mark Knopfler is another great choice. He’s also another interesting dude. I saw him perform years ago and much like Robert Plant only played current songs. Refused to play anything else.

Kurt Vile I just heard of him recently going through Apple musics new releases I downloaded and listened to his new album Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me TBH I think I’m

Going to have to give it another listen.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Kurt is really good…an acquired taste. Give him a few listens!

Blue on Black is just terrific I loved the Five Finger Death Punch version too!

I often do that listen to something let it sit and go back later and come out with an entirely different perspective 🙂. Great choices!

I didn't know that Kenny Wayne was Mel Gibson's son in law! Definitely check that collaboration with Bobby Rush out. I love Mark Knoffler. He has a distinctive sound. He makes it look easy. Excellent session today. Have a good one!😀😘

Susan Niemann's avatar

I love those little tidbits of trivia…like the Mel Gibson connection. 😂 I’m listening to that Bobby Rush effort right now. oh my! Just terrific! Have a decent week and dont forget your allergy meds!!

I could listen to Mark Knopfler play anything, any time, anywhere!

Me, too. Find ‘Telegraph Road’ on You Tube… it’s wonderful! 💙💙

Mark was my late husband's favorite and we saw him in person many times. A highlight was an outdoor venue in Florence, Mass where he performed " Telegraph Road."

Oh wow! That must be a memorable time. 💙💙

Thanks so much for showcasing Kurt Vile here …I think his best album so far was his self recorded one during Covid called “watch my moves“… I am listening to his new album, which of course is pretty darn wonderful and I get to see him live July 11! In Santa Fe, he hasn’t been here for a number of years. I cannot wait.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Thank you for reminding me! He’s so good. I love his work with Courtney Barnett too. That concert ought to be fantastic!! Have a great time!

Recently, Kenny Wayne recently teamed up with the legendary bluesman Bobby Rush for an album- naturally, it turned out great: https://www.kennywayneshepherd.net/articles/bobby-rush-and-kenny-wayne-shepherd-unite-together-on-new-blues-album-titled-young-fashioned-ways

It is.😃

Thanks for this David…will be going to this album. I’m sure its excellent.

What I’ve heard of it is. “Tell Me Who” is in the well-worn accuse-my-wife-of-cheating-on-me subgenre of the blues, and gives it some new life.
