Anita Baker and Kool and the Gang were among to things I listened to when they were first popular. I love Kool’s beat and musicians. Anita just had that hypnotic voice, love them both.
I just got home from camping over the weekend with my daughter and her husband. We camped in a luxurious trailer in the NJ pine barrens. I had a wonderful time! Our temperatures have moderated too, it isn’t expected to get that hot again for a while.
Another great post, Susan. Bring me back to life is one of only hard rock songs I have in my computer library of 2500. (It's mostly classical and classic rock, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc, with a lot of downtempo ambient chill)
You have a great collection, Bill. I love discovering new music…I lean towards heavier metal, but Ronnie Montrose just came into my playlists… Joe Bonamassa, Van Halen, Aerosmith, LOVE Zeppelin, and JAZZ! I have a classical list, too that I play when I’m trying to write. And of course, playlists for the gym to keep me motivated.
Oh Susan, you made my day with that wonderful song by Anita Baker. It brings tears to my eyes for what could have been for Philip and I, but I will always love the memories. Thank you for sharing it and the mention. 😘
I forever love Kool and company. Their 70s hits are funk on fire, and they managed a successful transition to mainstream in the '80s when their fellow funkateers couldn't manage it.
Sometimes, when asked which one was Kool, they would respond with the truth: "We all Kool, man!"
Anita Baker has a very special voice. Those folks at Arista must have been very embarrassed. Love that father-daughter duet. Koll and the Gang had their beginnings as a jazz ensemble. It shows bigly in the horn arrangements. My favorite 70s funk bands are Earth Wind and Fire and Palaiment Funkadelic.(Hint!😂) Amy Winehouse and Tony Bennett were magical on that duet. It's a shame how she ended up. So much untapped talent! Have a wonderful day and stay cool!😃😘
Kool got their start as a JAZZ ensemble? Really! I didnt know that! I have a whole column just on jazz scheduled. What is it with these artists who drink and drug themselves to death??? :(
Yes to the hints, man! Love them both! Be safe in this heat. Today is supposed to be the end of it here...for awhile, anyway! 🥵😘
I look forward to these every Monday! Anita Baker is a class act-love her music. And omg…Bobby Amaru and his daughter-perfection and I love that song! Kool and the Gang had a song “Too Hot” which I really liked…(not so disco-y) lol. And always Tony Bennet! Thanks for the memories!!
You have made my day, Tess. Im so glad you like these little columns…because I just love music so much and I’m always interested in hearing ew things! It’s going to be crazy hot her in farm country today so I NEED Kool! LOL ‘Open Sesame’ is another one they did that my friend loves. The brass in that is stellar!
Tony? SWOON! I adore him…more than Sinatra. I cant really explain why. 🤷🏼♀️
HUGS! I hope THIS will be the week the felon never wakes up. 😬
The Anita Baker song has always been one of my favorites. I've been seeing a lot more of Amy Winehouse in my YouTube feeds lately (it's mostly music). So that's cool. I think Tony might have been a bit smitten.
Morning! He might indeed have been smitten! I’m so sad when l’m digging up information on these highly talented people and learn of their struggles with addiction and depression. She was only 27 years old…. her demons were too strong. I love her voice…and I think I have always had a crush on Tony! I saw him live once in St. Louis and cried. Whatta voice!
Hope we survive this coming week, Charles! Thanks!
I didn’t realize she was only 27. Yikes. We will survive! We’re going to edit Trump out of our lives this week like Spain did in the World Cup photo! Edit! Edit! Edit!

Anita is so powerful and rich! I always liked her! And how can you not tap your foot when you hear song by Kool. 💙🎶
PS We’ve had a break in the heat here…thank goodness. Hope you’re doing well!

That sounds wonderful. Camping is a great way to relax...because you're there, not cleaning, shopping, or doing! Good for you guys! 💙

From Anita Baker to Evanenence, to kool and the gang to Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse.
You’ve covered all the bases today ❤️.
