Just WOW! I am so taken aback by all these iconic songs that I have loved forever but not heard for years! I had no idea that Dave re-recorded his hit, “Feelin’ Alright,” during Covid! And what a freaking All-Star band! Oh my God, I am in heaven right now with him, listening to this. What a fantastic recording with all those awesomes! Thank you, Susan!

Glen and his kids brought me to tears. So wonderful they all experienced a tour together before his passing. How endearing. Glen was an outstanding session guitarist before he found more fame as a performer and star in his own right.

I was a huge fan of Jimmy Cliff and the “Harder They Come” soundtrack. I used to blast it in the dorms in college. No one had heard of it until I started playing it and I sure stood out as a bizzaro music fan. His cover of the Johnny Nash song here is delightful! I’m sharing this playlist with my audio production class May 6th! It’s out last class before finals and they deserve this treat and introducing them to your Stack, Sus!

Those Covid sessions produced some amazing work, didnt they? (Check out Dino Jalusick and Janie) And the Glen Campbell story… tragic yet meaningful. I was never a hug fan, but Tim loved that song! Thank you so much Dana… hope your class enjoys all this too! School is almost out!💙

YAY! Music can do that! 😂 I’m so glad you enjoyed it! ✌️💙

Thanks for this great listening experience. It was a pleasure to have the songs on in the background while I was counting out my medications into my pill boxes for the next month. "I'm feeling alright" really resonated for me with this tedious task. LOL!

You do that too?? 🤣. There’s Music for every activity! Hugs and thanks for being here! 😘💫💙

Thanks for this, Susan. I love and miss Jimmy Cliff, Glen Campbell and Dave Mason. Another death that hit me hard recently was Bob Weir. I was a freshman in college and not yet a big Grateful Dead fan. We were hanging in the dorm smoking some awesome weed when “Playing in the Band” came on the stereo. Holy Shit. To this day (more than 50 years later) I am right back there when I hear that magnificent song.

So much talent! My friend is a HUGE dead fan and she cried when she heard the news about Bob Weir. The Glenn Campbell story really moved me...

Music brings us together like nothing else! Have a great day! 💙💙✌️

I thought I commented on this but I was on my phone and I have trouble with the Substack app cuz of my eyes, so I guess I didn't hit send or something.

Anyway, whatever I said before was probably really clever and funny, and since it's past 1 am, no way I can repeat the masterpiece.

I'm very sorry.

Great music though! :-)

LOL! No problem. I hope you enjoyed it. 💙

I have to be careful with my phone…reading from it for too long makes my eyes almost ACHE! Old people problems, I guess. 🤷🏼‍♀️

At least I'm not dealing with cankles and old bone spurs floating around in my head.

Joanne also plays a sweet guitar. Pure as maple syrup.

And Wichita Lineman has always been one of my faves and ya must admire a bass guitar solo.

Glen Campbelll suffered for quite sometime. One of the most touching things, given his brand of dementia and how progressed it had become, he had a new single out shortly before he passed called “Adios.” A beautiful song and a coda to his life. As it happens, Linda Ronstadtsang that same song in a beautiful arrangement. I don’t know how close her version was to losing her voice, among other things, but it’s kind of spooky, or maybe a love letter to fans who will miss them and their music. I prefer the latter possibility.

I dint know about that song…thanks, Carol. I’ll look that up!

Linda R…. what a voice. *sigh

Have a good week! 💙

Jim Webb wrote it in 1981. She sang it on an album but my Google search is anything but helpful. Wikipedia shows she included it in 1989. album Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind.

Thanks for the Jukebox- what a nice diversion.

You have a good week as well.

She always was gorgeous. Publicly, she’s a soldier about her health status but it so hard seeing people with talent brought low by disease.

Glad you liked the song. I’m not a great Glen Campbell fan. Rhinestone Cowboy turned me off. But my maternal aunt and uncle had dementia and Alzheimer’s and I am deeply touched that he sang and played guitar on Adios for his final album. Linda could belt with that soprano! Tragic that her health robbed her of her voice.

I looked Linda up to see where’s she’s at today… living in San Francisco, 79 years old and absolutely gorgeous. 🥰

Hey, I've been on the road all day and listened to Glen's "Adios"... gorgeous song. Listened to the version with Linda and Aaron Neville ... damn. That woman could sing! Thank YOU for directing me to these. Superb!

All these choices are so cool Susan ❤️.

On a personal note I will deleting my Substack by Friday. I’ve gotten to a point where my screen time is way too high and I’ve grown tired of weeding through the bots, fake accounts whatever you want to call them. I just personally feel like I’ve had enough. I put a post up today.

Yes we have each others emails so absolutely I will stay in touch Susan.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Yes please. There’s a lot of stressful shit in the world right now and you have to take care of you!!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Oh wow. Well I understand. When it’s too much it’s too much. 🤷‍♀️. But stay in touch!!

Geoff has an ear for great music. That lady is awesome! There might have been a bit of talent collaborating with Dave Mason😂😂. I love Michael McDonald. His album "Motown" is worth checking out. He covers Motown songs with his wonderful voice. "Wichita Lineman" is my favorite Glen Campbell song. Before he became a star, he was a session musician in Nashville.(Virtuoso guitar player) It's pretty cool to tour with your kids as your band. Jimmy Cliff is a truly underated Reggae artist. Thanks for some wonderful music to start the week.😀😘

The whole Glen Campbell thing was so incredible and so sad. The fact they decided to be public about his illness was a brave decision. Yes! Have a good week!! Thanks Charlie!

Joanne Shaw Taylor can really crank it! Look up her playing

“jealousy” live- her solo part is awesome!

I will look her up! Thanks Dave-she is super talented!
