What's happening at the farm?
Not a damn thing! 😂 Here are pictures of my beautiful Nellwood.
HEY! I just learned I have ONE THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS! Never in my wildest dreams did I think in less than 3 1/2 months I’d reach such a milestone! You guys are pretty wonderful and I love our conversations!
Now… your Nellwood tour.
Some of you wanted more photos of the farm. I’ve only been back 5 days and I’m finally starting to unwind. (Except when I read the news. 🙄) While I’ve been living in Philadelphia, my best pal, who is like a brother to me, has been minding the house & pets. He’s doing a magnificent job honoring this place.
Looking west towards one of the fields, cover crop is wheat.
It’s a perfect day to pull some weeds in the flower beds and do some trimming. There’s a gentle breeze. It’s SO quiet. FAR from the city.
The red owl. I laugh every time I see it. 😂
We had 8 chickens and a rooster once in this coop my son-in-law built. It’s empty now, but maybe someday… I can’t describe the taste of an egg that was laid an hour before it lands on your plate. 🐔🍳
The back of the house is the place for morning coffee or enjoy a cocktail while we grill up a steak. After dinner, on a clear night, you can see every star.
Yogi stands guard over his kingdom. ❤️
There are also remnants inside the house of my people. Like Nellie Lee’s pencil holder and great-grandmothers oak secretary.
And my granddad’s clock which I had restored.
The rocking chair on the left belonged to my grandad. The tiny red rocker was used by mother when she was a little girl. “N” on the pillow for Nellie!
Paul and Nellie Lee fell in love at Nellwood and were married over 50 years. She gave birth to her twin daughters here in 1935. Seriously, my grandparents were the best people I have ever known. Kind, honest, and hardworking.
I hope they would be happy with all we’ve done.
I don’t take this for granted in any way. How truly fortunate I am to have had such loving grandparents & end up with a little piece of heaven like Nellwood.
Thanks for letting me share my roots with you! Do you have memories of where you grew up… city or country? Tell me about them!
And again, thanks to all who have subscribed to Susan Speaks. Paid or not, I’m glad to know you. As I overcome the loss of a major client, this column is helping me pay the bills. I appreciate each of you! ❤️

Amazing, beautiful photos as always, Susan. It’s good to see you’re taking care of yourself and reminding me to take a sanity break.
The town I grew up in is the place I just moved back to. It was three blocks from the Delaware River, and now I live on the riverbank. I’ve come full circle, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Your farm looks so peaceful and serene. I know farm work is hard and dirty, but fulfilling, especially when you can eat all the fresh fruits and vegetables. Enjoy your time back at the farm, and I’ll look forward to lunch when you return.
