Why are you keeping THAT?
Look at your life through the lens of your stuff. Is it time to purge?
I have a serious linen problem. Towels, sheets, pillows… I can’t help myself. I’m told it’s girl thing. But, hey, we can all agree a thread count is important.
Candles? I have enough to open a shop. Damn you, TJ Maxx. 🙄
If I never buy another article of clothing, it’ll be fine. But, that sweater was on a sale rack for only FIVE dollars!
Stop the madness, Susan!
A serious look at my little apartment would make one think I’ve lived here forever when it’s been but 6 years. Call Marie Kondo, dammit… it’s time for an intervention. 🙌 Granted, when I moved to Philly, I brought bits of my life with me from the Midwest. Prized possessions, each with a story or a person behind it. We all have these things, and no matter where we go, we can’t bear to part with them. Like my priceless Bullwinkle and Rocky Clock.
My Etch A Sketch. (Don’t judge. It was important to the creative process.)
The desk plaque from my ad agency days… given to me by a client who finally admitted I was the boss of him. (I made him a lot of money, so I was.)
We ALL have stuff that represents a piece of our life. These relics are sentimental and precious, for whatever reason, and we should hang on to them. Wherever I go, Rocky and Bullwinkle are coming with me.
Yet, when is enough is enough? As I get ready to drive back for a visit in Missouri, I’m loading up stuff (or donating it) because seriously… what single woman needs 7 sets of sheets? Ten pillows? Enough dishes to serve 12 people when I can’t fit that many people in my apartment. And two dozen cloth napkins? (I love linens, remember?) I spent a good part of the day purging “stuff”, sorting the important from the ‘WTH do I have this for’… and believe me, getting rid of it was very freeing. Just let it go.
When you’re younger, you’re in the accumulation phase of life. As you age, you realize how little you need. What I need now is good health, my camera, music, and purpose. Oh, and a firm mattress.
And this. When you have a friend who knows you SO WELL and gifts you art like this, keep that friend. I can’t bear to part with it. 😂😂
One mans trash is another mans treasure, right? Look around and give your stuff some long, hard consideration this weekend. If cobwebs are covering those old golf clubs, donate them. Dig into your closet. You’re never going to wear THAT again. Why is it in there?
Pro tip: Check the pockets before you head to Goodwill. I found a ten dollar bill, a beer bottle cap, and old gum wrappers. Very telling. 😃
Let me know what YOU find. And how happy you feel that you did it.
Never discount the important cultural gifts from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Never.
LOVED Rocky and Bullwinkle! All time favorite 😍
