I have a shitload of clothes to sort through. I did get rid of a bunch of old golf clubs last year. Every time I've moved, I find things I've saved and ask myself "Why in the Hell did you keep that?"
Oh, I get it. Like two pair of jeans I FINALLY gave up. Why did that take so long? 🤦♀️ Plus when you donate your stuff, someone else is getting use out of it. The golf clubs? I told you the story of me driving the cart on the green once, didn't I? Oh Yes I DID! 😂😂
My daughter got married over 20 years ago here in Australia and not long after moved to London with her husband. I still have all her wedding presents. I have enough platters, glasses etc to open a catering business.
I have been using the platters since but I don't need the fancy cocktail glasses. Too scared to let them go. I let a little fancy handbag go once and she hasn't let me forget it.
Marie Condo was a game-changer for me. I never thought of thanking an item and then letting go, but it works for me! Also learning how to fold was cooler than I thought it would be! :)
Two years ago I packed up any size small I owned and let it sit in the boxes until I finally convinced myself to give it to charity thinking I’d never be that size petite size again. You can eat a lot being a caretaker of a dying man in eight years. It’s a lot harder to take off after 60. I eyed this one box that had barely used T shirts in beautiful colors that were made really well. I hated to do it but I did after watching Maria Kondo.
What do you know after my husband died then I got cancer and lost the rest of the weight I had put on. I’m now a small petite and I intend to stay this way and every time I walk into the room where that box sat, I morn that box of barely used T shirts. I’ve yet to find any to match them. Ridiculous I know but, I do have size medium to extra large that are being picked up as I speak. Six large boxes full to bursting I will never ever wear again. It’s a start Now if I could just get rid of the other things my husband and I accumulated in the 46 years living in this overgrown house. Like Scarlet, I’ll think about it tomorrow!
You aren’t kidding about trying to lose weight after 60. Ooo boy. Menopause has not been kind. I’m even in the gym this minute writing to you! And cancer is a helluva way to lose weight… I’m so sorry. But you’re good now, right? I think projects like this are just one goal at a time. Small little chunks-I can really overwhelm myself trying to get too much done in one day. Ugh. So I agree -think about it tomorrow! It’ll be there! 😂❤️
Yes Susan, I’m still wrestling to get back, after developing Sepsis and nearly dying from a port infection but the cancer is gone at my 6 month check. My hair though has come back thick as ever but curly. I can’t get used to it, I pass a mirror and do a double take. I don’t like it at all, hopefully it will relax when it grows longer. Big problem, right?
UGH. You have been through it...I'm glad you're on the other side of it all. Ive heard that your hair comes back differently after cancer...maybe find a great stylist. It might be a brand new you! HUGS to you from Philly! ❤️
OMG..you're reading my mind. I'm currently in the process of purging. I just shredded my 1989 tax return and tons of papers, donated so much to Goodwill I thought they'd turn out the lights and pretend they're not home. Much more to go. Some stuff hard, I'm sentimental. Found someone who wants some of my furniture. Yayy. The older I get, the more I realize don't need all that stuff. China for 12? Hahaha, me too! But I'm keeping it...for now.
It feels soooo good though. I had to let Tim’s old clock radio go and that was hard but it only partially worked. I just need to stop buying towels now. 😜
For the last 2 years, I have been cleaning out my house, turning it into my home. My husband who died in May 2022, was a HOARDER and a "COLLECTOR". He hoarded papers, receipts, trash and "collected" Beanie Babies (1000!!), pens, clocks, watches, tools, shoes, socks, clothing, furniture, kaleidoscopes, coats, buckets, you name it. I have availed myself of 1800TakeMyShit so often, they send me flowers. I have also found a nice auction house to sell stuff. Yes, one man's trash IS another man's treasure and I can finally see my floors and walls again!!! Three piles: keep, donate, sell. Sorry, one more: BURN.
And I love that "WOULD POOP HERE AGAIN" Review. LOL!
That’s serious Sharon! Beanie Babies!! My grandmother had a bag of ink pens-I asked her if I could use one. And she said…oh no. These are my good pens. 😂😂. What!? I hope it’s been a cathartic exercise- I know it has been for me!
I do understand where you're coming from Susan. There are times that I donate or give away things. And who among us isn't guilty of buying something we really like but don't absolutely need? My late mother was a pack rat. Twenty+years ago, when we had to clean out the house, it was a nightmare. From attic to basement there was stuff that should have been gotten rid of long ago. She had this idea that it would be useful "someday." Of course, it never was.
I have a LOT of Jetsons paraphernalia. I once owned an English Mastiff named Astro, so I collected a lot of that swag as well. I have the entire series in DVD (actually ripped and on my Plex server), a seri-cel collectors edition on my wall, and a bunch of plush toys, pens, and other goodies.
Just recently I have bought three Blu-ray discs of the old Looney Tunes shows, to relieve my Saturday morning cartoon watching in the 70's. n.b. - those really weren't appropriate for pre-teen kids to watch
OH WOW! I loved that show...and of course, I now have it in my head as I go into the fitness center. Damn you, Anderson! 😂😂😂😂 (Loony Tunes....hell yeah!)
LOL..... oh hell, no. That's important shit. I am gifting a little red Peavy of Tim's to my friend in Jersey who has a band...Tim would have liked that. The music must continue.
Never discount the important cultural gifts from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Never.
I couldnt agree more!!
LOVED Rocky and Bullwinkle! All time favorite 😍
Same! That clock is just precious to me!! 😃
It’s always time to purge! LOL.

Oh I remember. I take the clothes to Goodwill. I need a spring cleaning. I also live in a small space.
My daughter got married over 20 years ago here in Australia and not long after moved to London with her husband. I still have all her wedding presents. I have enough platters, glasses etc to open a catering business.
Oh my goodness! She doesn’t want them?! 🤦♀️. eBay? 😂😂
I have been using the platters since but I don't need the fancy cocktail glasses. Too scared to let them go. I let a little fancy handbag go once and she hasn't let me forget it.
Unfortunately it's not worth shipping them over. She doesn't entertain these days but eats out a lot.

I'll need to dig into Marie a little deeper....I'm sure I dont know how to fold anything! 😂 THANK YOU Scott!!
I still don't fold it right, but still I try! Lol
Rocky and Bullwinkle a keeper for sure!
Jane, I think that clock might be maybe 40 some years old...an old client gave it to me. It goes where I go! 😂
That's awesome!!

Purging has been extremely cathartic 😊

Exactly- like me with sheets!🤓 it’s not easy!!
One of my weaknesses is bath towels.
Yes! I have to touch them and inspect it all! Do we have a problem 😅
Not that I know of.
😃.

I have a Rocky and Bullwinkle poster on my wall and the complete series DVD set. There is nothing else like that show...
DAVID! YOU ARE MY BROTHER! Thats awesome!
Are you telling me something about all my guitars and effects pedals?
LOL..... oh hell, no. That's important shit. I am gifting a little red Peavy of Tim's to my friend in Jersey who has a band...Tim would have liked that. The music must continue.
Geoff...Dicky Betts died. I just saw that. :(
I hadn't heard that. He was a great guitarist.
