When I got let go from my first, and last, full time job after 20+ years, after finally emerging from under the proverbial covers (which, TBH, took a couple a years with a pandemic sprinkled in the mix) I declared that I was now “CEO of ME.”
Thankfully I saved for rainy days, have a great support system in friends and family, and found THIS community that I’d be devastated without. I look for familiar names in your posts and others and smile upon recognition. I say out loud “yessss!” when something is written that captures my heart.
And then — meeting a new friend in real life who feels very much like an old friend — well, that’s just a chef’s kiss beyond my imagination!
You got it right Susan. Self care is definitely not selfish..without self care I’d have jumped off a bridge a long time ago. And I hear you about the 7 decades OUCH! That one really hurt me too.

I love this. This best relationship is the one you can have is with yourself. I'm learning how to be my own best friend. I've always tried to teach my girls to trust their own instincts first. Because our instincts are always right. I believe in earned rights. And you certainly have earned yours. You have one of the most generous spirits I've ever experienced in quite sometime. I'm grieving everyday over what's happening. Yesterday sucked. I felt miserable and told myself to stop reading. But I can't look away. Fortunately, I have my grandson to keep me smiling. Then I cry. How I'm I going to protect him from hatred from those who will judge him because of the color of his skin? All I can do is take my power back and fight. And I will fight. I just have to remember to breathe. Like he told me today, "Just breathe Nay Nay, watch me do it." He's pretty smart for 5 yrs old. I love you. Last week I did receive an invitation to my 45th year high school reunion(class of 1980) and I threw it in the trash. President Nixon’s daughter was married in the Rose Garden in 1971. It was a huge wedding and it was televised. I watched it. I was 10 years old.
