Ohh, this song. I also love their rendition of "Blue Moon". And speaking of Natalie Merchant, I cannot listen to "What's the Matter Here?" without weeping. So sorry for your loss. :(

I JUST listened to Blue Moon yesterday! It's so good! Natalie is amazing..such a distinctive voice! Thank you Marian... he was a beautiful soul. ❤️

Perfect, the day before my Kent's bday. We met when I was in my early 40's. This is the month he was born and died. Beautiful memories.

"...I said "Sister, don't you understand?

He's all I ever wanted in a man

I'm tired of sittin' around the T.V. every night

Hoping I'm finding a Mr. Right"

I'm glad you appreciate the song... we had a full, short time together. I'm sorry for your loss... I know you understand. ❤️❤️

.. they were a going concern on Queen West .. more street peeps who patted Dylan on the head in ‘86 & ‘cood over him.. like a little turkey in his basket .. This is where ‘mediaTribe was cookin & MuchMedia was preening .. I’d heard the junkies were breaking through down Texas Way .. College Circuit .. but sometimes we were elbow to elbow for late weekend breakfast.. or interviewing them at home or at the Cameron House.. Really truly - ‘street level.. hung at The Queeze like many of us for the same Hot n Sour Soup .. the Bamboo once had.. till their chef went walkabout ! 🦎🏴‍☠️

Thank you, Susan, (and Tim) for reminding me of the Cowboys Junkies. I remember them well and didn’t know they were still performing. Speaking of Canadians, one of my favorites from years past is Ian and Sylvia’s Four Strong Winds album from the early 1960s. The song was covered by Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, The Seekers, and many others. But Ian Tyson and Sylvia Fricker’s version is in my opinion the most enduring.

WAYNE! Thats great...Adding it to my playlist for the road trip I'm on right now!! LOVE new music...appreciate it!

One of my favorites to dance with my husband who died in May 2022. He always sang to me while we danced. He had a beautiful voice that was the first to go when he became sick. But I knew he was singing because he squeeze my hand letting me know he was singing from his heart. I can still hardly listen to any of Bob’s music without breaking down so I don’t. Maybe someday.

Oh my God...this song. Its absolutely beautiful... I'm so sorry for your loss. And I can certainly understand why it's hard to hear this. But, in time...you will. Thanks for sharing this incredible song. ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve always loved The Cowboy Junkies version of Sweet Jane. Thanks for the Misguided Angel video. Natalie Merchant is also a fave.

One song led to another. Sweet Jane is amazing...and Natalie is, too. She was a nice complement to Margot... it really worked. 😃

Good song. I will drop this for another Canadian band that had almost no airplay in the US. Saga, the song is "No Stranger" and it is from the "Worlds Apart" album.

You KNEW I'd love this! 😂 Saga. I have never heard of them but now I have and will be listening to them on my next road trip...starting tomorrow. Yes...I'm driving again! Then flying to Anchorage in about a month. After I freeze my ass off I'm planning to go to the Tucson Jazz Festival in January. I've been to it before and damn... so good. Anyway, thanks for Saga! ❤️

Adding it to the road trip music...thanks Pete!

Those are two unmistakable voices, and powerful lyrics. Cowboy Junkies has a sound all it's own. The songs that come to mind for me are "End of the Line" by the Travelling Willburys, "Until the Next Teardrop Falls" by Freddy Fender, "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" by Willie Nelson, and "The Road Goes On Forever" by the Highwaymen. Chris Kristopherson passed yesterday. (Willie is the last one standing) Thank you again for sharing with us beautiful music and a piece of your beautiful heart.❤️❤️😘

I'm going to St. Louis tomorrow and will listen to all of your suggestions, Charlie. I'm always looking for new music. Sad that Kris K. passed. :( I appreciate you and glad we know each other. ❤️✌️

Pete Rose passed today. He was one of my heroes growing up.

My dad used to take my brother and I to Crosley Field to see the Big Red Machine. Sad to see him go. Free Pete once and for all. Let him in the Hall of Fame.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Man, I saw that like an hour ago. I guess I didnt know he was 83! Sad. :(

Charles Austin's avatar

Pete was his own worst enemy. His father and grandfather were neighborhood bookies in Cincinnati where he grew up. A product of his environment.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Oh wow...I had no idea. Explains a lot.

Great post. Tim sure had some excellent taste in music judging by your posts. Since I'm a total hipster/emo by redneck standards, I've always liked the Cowboy Junkies. My favorite song of theirs is sort of a motto for me: I'm so open!😀

Susan Niemann's avatar

Thank Don! I'll be listening for that one as I travel tomorrow. Spotify and windshield time means musical discovery! And yes...Tim had wide ranging musical taste and I feel its a gift he left behind. ❤️✌️

Great lyrics, thanks for turning me on to that song. I haven't heard it.

The songs that move me move with the days. Ever changing. Today it's a few things by Pavarotti, but tomorrow it could be Julia by Pavlov's Dog. My tastes run from the standard to the extremely obscure.

One problem I have with music is that I can't write with it in the background. I get too lost in it. That didn't used to be true. It's more as I've gotten older.

You also win extra points today because you wrote, "Suffice to say," instead of "suffice it to say," lol. :-)

Susan Niemann's avatar

Did I say "Suffice to say" HAHA! well, I try so hard not to hurt our precious English language... I'm a terrible nerd and proud of it. 😂 When I wrote copy in my agency, I would put headphones on and listen to classical selections.... no words to sing along to. It was also a signal to my team that I really didn't want to be interrupted. So much good music out there... I start a road trip (again) tomorrow and plan to listen to all the suggestions I'm getting! ✌️

Charles Bastille's avatar

Yeah, classical doesn’t work, either. I get too lost in that, as well.

Good luck and safety on the road trip. I look forward to reports and photos in an upcoming post. :-)

With you on Cowboy Junkies, back in the day. I recommend adding Bella White and William Prince for some more recent talent out of Canada. Bella’s song “Marilyn” is one of the most haunting pieces in a long time.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Hey Bob I surely will...I'm always on the hunt for new music. My workout/driving playlists are typically heavy rock. I love great lyrics, too. And honestly, Tim helped me appreciate a much wider and deeper selection of genres for which I am grateful. THANKS for the tips!

Susan Niemann: Music speaks to a person as no mere words can do, and your love for Tim says a lot about your depth as a person who cares and empathizes and, most of all, who loves.

I love your writings.

Susan Niemann's avatar

🙏 Thank you Armand...I had led a fairly sheltered musical life I suppose until I met Tim. He had so much depth and was incredibly smart. His circle of friends was very diverse, too, and he could speak on just about any subject. Thank you for your kind words. ❤️❤️

Sally, he died way too young and I think the gift he left behind is the music he shared. I'm thrilled you've offered me some suggestions...I'll be traveling hard for the next several months and will be listening to everything you've suggested. THANK YOU...and thanks for reading. I'm very grateful! ❤️✌️

Ohhhhh....do I have a bucket list! 😂 Yes, the Junkies are touring!! I knew about the Tragically Hip (I dated a Canadian 5 lifetimes ago!) and was sad when Gord Downie passed... I'll need to catch that documentary! Yes you do have that great music all to yourself. 😂😂
