Great post! Just back from five weeks in Puerto Rico. It's like Nova Scotia with tropical weather and warm ocean. I love traveling alone. You meet more people and learn faster. You're going to love your next adventure!

I read Patrick’s piece and it’s not cheerful. I can see his points and while he’s not quite wrong, I can’t quite fathom that there’s nothing here worth holding onto. Maybe I’m just a bit more hopeful or maybe I just can’t admit to myself that we’re in a dumpster fire with no fire hoses.

It's far from cheerful, that's for sure. And I think Trump is the result of a sickness inside some of our fellow citizens. Hate comes so easily to so many. The lack of reason and empathy is just astounding. I think being a "conservative" today equates with being cruel and arrogant. I hope we find the fire hoses!

I agree with you, Kay-El. I still believe there are more of us than there are of them. I also know that more people voted against him than for him. That’s what continues to give me hope.

The felon is not a well man, neither physically nor mentally. The fact that he eats a diet of fat and sugar and avoids green vegetables is not in his favor. He also believes that exercise is dangerous because he thinks we have a limited number of heartbeats. One of these days something has got to give.

I agree with everything you write here Susan. History will remember the cowards that propped this facist piece of garbage up! Enjoy your gardening 🧑‍🌾 and safe travels! Enjoy!

Love what you wrote.

You walk the tightrope of sweet and sour, and cross the melon fields filled with rat dens.

I'm not nearly as dark or pessimistic as Patrick. It's not just that optimism beats the alternative, but to say This Is a Country Not Worth Saving is not so much cynicism as surrender.

It's exactly the reason people don't like or trust or align with liberals, or Democrats.

Give me a sheet of lined yellow paper and I could fill up both sides with 50 Reasons

America is worth saving, and then ask for another sheet.

Enjoy your produce, your travels and the rest of your summer.

Thank you Ken. Patrick was painfully suggesting that our populace is not demonstrating a civility or decency that could improve American society.

The US is absolutely worth saving... but the pillars of racism and misogyny that are currently supporting America must be knocked down. Our democracy must be fought for. And someday, maybe we can just stay out of each other lives. 🙄

I really appreciate you reading! ✌️

Agree with everything you said! Who knows what is going to happen…but if it’s good…it better happen pretty damn soon. Otherwise…living in fear is what we will have to endure. I hate this mother-f****** administration.

Glad to hear you are planning an adventure-stay safe also on your travel to Boston!

I hate them too, Tess.... it's such an unbelievable time. I always find comfort in the closing remark Joyce Vance uses: We're in this together.

HUGS! 💙💙

Susan Niemann: . . . where I can stay affordably, relax, take pictures, write and JUST BE."

Go for it, good lady! GO FOR IT.

There is only ONE Susan Niemann, who loves Tim and still enriches us with his full presence, and who loves her neighbor and wants a system of freedom and due process of law where her neighbor can live sustainably and in dignity.

There is a part of America you can claim.

What you see now is not new.

The Tramp-Whitehouse is the reincarnation of Lester Maddox.

We have a counter-tradition going from Concord Massachusetts and the Transcendentalists, through Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau through Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville and further through Emily Dickinson.

I can cite the tradition of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, through W.E.B. Du Bois, through Richard Wright, Zora Neale Hurston, James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Jesmyn Ward.

I am proud of America in these two traditions.

THESE Traditions ARE worth defending and, as Dr. Martin Luther King said, the arc of history is long.

Build your spiritual life up as you have through Tim's memories and music and through spirit-strengthening culture you experience in trips and stays that are restful to your spirit and which build you up as a whole person.

We are your FRIENDS. Armando has probably two regular readers, and now you have 3400! I LOVE THE PERSON YOU ARE AND ALWAYS READ YOU WITH LOVE AND INTEREST.

You are a very gifted photographer.

You share so very much from inside and we love you for it.

Stay strong and build your strength. You strengthen our little community.

3400! Not so little!

I SO APPRECIATE your kindness, Armand! I needed this today... my overthinking has been getting to me lately! It might be time to hit the gym and get a good sweat going. 😂

I hope you have a positive and relaxing weekend. Find the little joys wherever you can!

Planted tomatoes, eggplant, peppers this week and the potatoes I planted last week have begun to sprout. Still have more seedlings not ready to put out yet and should make a few squash hills for butternuts.

SUCH good therapy! Gardening and sweat is a mood lifter! My bro back in Missouri sent me photos of what the garden looks like... they've had enough rain to make plants jump!!

Things seem to become more fucked up on a daily basis. Fortunately I'm very busy with work. Comfest, our local Columbus "Party with a Purpose" starts 2 weeks from today. It's Pride weekend as well as No Kings. I'm the type that runs into a fight rather than running away from it. I won't give the assholes the satisfaction of being afraid of them. Try to find positives whenever you can. Have fun in Boston. 😀😘

Work definitely keeps you occupied. Please stay safe, though, ok? And enjoy the Party! It sounds awesome. Finding positives wherever they land is good advice...cause there have been days I've had a pit in my stomach that wont go away. :(

I agree with you 100%! Btw, I had 2 great-uncles who served in the US Army during WWII. One did combat in Europe and the other was a MP guard at a camp here that had Nazi POW’s. If the both of them were alive today. They would be saying: WTF is this shit!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Thanks, Richard. Must we allow history to repeat itself to finally get the point that we really need to stay out of others peoples business and just be decent to one another?

My great-uncle who did combat died 4 years before I was born. My other great-uncle died in July 1980 a month after I graduated from high school. The both of them never liked to talk about WWII.
