A real Class Act… Thank you for sharing!

There was a quiet dignity about her, Kelly. She was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew her. I honestly dont think she had an enemy in the world. 🥰

What a beautiful post. My auntie, my rock, turns 103 on Shrove Tuesday! I know exactly what you mean.

The senior women in our lives have so much to teach us. Happy Birthday to your aunt!!

Susan, I feel like I know your Grandma Nellie through you and your words. She seems she was very much like my Mom. We do need to listen more closely to our Nellies.

These women have a lot to teach us.... I wish I had paid more attention earlier. But in those last several years, we were very close and I will admire her forever!

We need a lot of Nellies.

We sure do Don. She also made the best homemade egg noodles!!

We need to celebrate Nellies all day.

She could have straightened all this out in 2 weeks! 🤣🤣

Sounds like she would kick some ass and take names

😂 and she would do it in a nice and most sincere way.

I think that knowing Nellie would have been a blessing and a pleasure!😍

We need more Nellie's in this country today. Sorry for your great loss 😞 I bet you are a lot like her!

Nellie never met a stranger and wherever she went, she made friends. I know you would have loved her, Linda!! I can only aspire to her nature...she taught me a lot! Writing about her shares her with others, I think. Thanks so much!! ❤️❤️

Remarkable just remarkable Susan. After watching that debacle today with president Zelensky I needed a lift this gave it to me and something I can grasp to ❤️!!

Oh Pete! I was sick after seeing that. I’m so ashamed of this country. But I admit finding the pictures for this helped me relax a little. I’m just glad she’s not here to see this travesty. 💙✌️

I never knew any of my grandparents, may I borrow your Nellie? She’s just the kind of person I would have wanted my grandmother to be. Thank you for sharing her with us.

Love you lady! 💙

Sharon, you and Nellie would have gotten along brilliantly! It was an emotional thing to write about. Once, things were tough for my mom, and I asked Nellie, why do I always have to be the strong one? She looked squarely at me and said, “because you have to”! 😂. I try not to disappoint her, even now!!

Love you too!!

I know you don’t want to disappoint her, but I believe she would be proud of the woman you have become. You couldn’t possibly disappoint her.

Oh my goodness I LOVE her!

You would adore her Jena... she was a dynamo.

One time, I was driving her to a doctor's appointment. She looked out the window and said: "You know, I think an abortion should be between a woman, her family, her doctor and her God. The government should stay out of it".

I almost drove the car off the road. 😂😂

There is a magnificent book here, you know :-)

Like I said, I ADORE her!

What a great lady, and driving in her 90's! What would Nellie think about today. My parents both died last year and for the first time I'm glad they're not here to witness the death of democracy. Boy would they be mad!

Expand full comment

Kathy, she sure was. Actually when she was NINETY FIVE, I went over to see her and she said: "I drove the car to the nursing home to see my friends....(long pause) because there was nobody here to tell me I couldnt!!" It was all I could do not to laugh. But that was her last excursion. 😂 She was one of a kind!

Nellie certainly left her mark on the world. And her granddaughter carries it forward every day. I've been dealing with a migraine since this morning, and reading your piece takes the edge off a little. Hang in there, karma is coming!😃😘

Same with me Charles, it’s because I didn’t sleep last night and then it was bullshit from the first thing I read. My headache meds are not helping but I was wound up. I saw Susan’s post and I said. Susan’s post will level me out! And it did. Nellie was your Angel here on earth and always will be till you go Susan.

When I grow up I wanna be just like her! 🤣. Hell, I’ll never grow up! Sorry about your migraine. That sucks. Hang in there! Come on Karma!!😃

I love old pictures like that. She sounds fabulous. If there were more Nellies in the world, or, at least in this country, we wouldn't be where we are right now. And if there were a LOT more Nellies in the world, we wouldn't even be worrying about the possibility.

Loving that hashtag! Of course I agree with you. She was a dynamic woman. Today was especially jarring in America. Her memory helped. 😘

I only wish I had been a little more shocked than I was. But nothing will surprise me. When he promised retribution during the election, I believed him.

I’ve been waiting for that for a long time. Whatever on earth happened to the concept of cholesterol bombs?

That is a wonderful piece. I actually remembered to breathe as I was reading it. I think my blood pressure went down. I love her kindness, compassion, and her perseverance. Thank you, for sharing, as always.

From witnessing this theater, it is exactly what the malignant narcissistic abusive psychopath would do. They're good at getting others to feel their rage and getting them to act on it. I've been there. I thought JD was going to get on his knees and unzip his pants right in front of us. When you give a madman more power than he could ever imagine, thanks to Putin, and a pathological need for revenge on those foreign and domestic. What could go wrong? Everything.

It's a eat my gummies by the handful day. JFC!

First, thanks friend. As I looked through all the pictures I felt a sense of calm. She was just a damned good woman. After watching that debacle I was incensed beyond belief. I need a Manhattan 🤦‍♀️. Love you.
