Hi Fernie! I learned about her charitable efforts when I did some research for this article. She’s just a kind and wonderful person, isn’t she? What talent!!
“She’s written 3000 songs, sold over 100 MILLION records and won 11 Grammys.”
I have always had mixed feelings about how Dolly Parton has chosen to present herself - the hair, the breasts, the clothes, the make-up. But there is no denying that the heart and soul beneath it all are pure gold and the woman is so darn talented musically. I love her music and all she does for kids and human beings in general - most recently for research into COVID. You have to wonder what prompted her to develop her outward persona.
What an amazing light Tim was in your life, Susan. He was/is a gift that keeps on giving and now that gift is spreading to friends. Thank you Tim and thank you Susan for sharing. HUGS!
Tim was a bright light in my life for sure. Through the music he shared, I can keep his memory alive. After learning more about Dolly Parton, I see what a talent she is...as well as a wonderful human! 😃👍
I love Dolly! She's the true queen of music of many different genres. She either makes you laugh, or hits you in the heart with sadness. I've never heard a bad song from her. Even more fun to watch is how she has a comeback for asses who think because she is a woman with big boobs she is stupid. She has more brains than a room full of GOP Congress. She's 78 years young, and still going strong.
Yeah, beets and Dolly. I'm not a great country music fan but, like you, I never turned my attention to it. But I do like Dolly. What a good posts you offer. Thank you. Nearly 2,000? Congratulations.
Hey Carol...Thanks so much. I was very lucky to have Tim to be my music concierge... so to speak. Because I wouldnt have given it a chance. And now I see what a tremendous talent she is...and certainly a very fine human. Appreciate you being here...and finally, I like beets! 😂
I like beets, too, but somehow I never get them. Can’t now. Mucho weight to lose and I’m on a Keto diet so…no sugar, no carbs. So….I’ll wait. Of course, when I want to fall off the diet wagon, you’ll find me at in the chocolates aisle. And I dearly love Coca Cola. Sigh.
Thank you. I know there are hazards. I eat chicken, fish and eggs, canola oil, mayo, extra virgin olive oil and take care to eat veggies like spinach, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli. Sandwiches are hard because...no bread. I read somewhere that you can substitute bread with romaine lettuce as a veggie foldover...like a taco only healthier. I've done that. It's not the same but very doable. I appreciate your input. I will say with some pride that for the first time in my life, I'm not addicted to sugar any more. I do crave sweets so I occasionally add the good kind of stevia leaf. I am diabetic and really overweight and I'm tired of lugging all this weight around. Thank you for your note. Be well.
i am also obese...but prefer to not destroy the beautiful creatures of this Earth...I am so effin healthy though...it is impossible for me to croak and i am ready at 76
Bummer, CAROL! The Keto diet really works, though. So hang in there! And honestly, if I were you, the chocolate aisle is exactly where I would be! 😂 Good luck!
The world needs more Dollys. But this one - is a Queen.
Hubby got to meet her when she was under contract with RCA (he worked there back in the day). Her (and his) pic adorns my fridge. What a heart and soul this special lady has … thanks for sharing, Susan!
And your hubby's mustache was very much in vogue, Karen. 😂 Im so glad you sent the photo! I wish the world had more Dollys...she's just good through and through! 💙✌️
Beets in their unadorned glory, wrapped tightly in foil and roasted until the skins pop right off! I love Dolly's silvery smooth voice too, she's wonderful.
Another beet lover. Cooked, pickled, any way. I never heard the Dolly Parton song with Steven Tyler before. Wow, I really like it. Reminded me of a story of my late boyfriend. He was a airline pilot. Dolly Parton flew on one of his flights years ago. He said she came into the cockpit and sat on his lap. He said she was so beautiful with a tiny waist, big bust and as personable and nice as you could imagine. The real deal. He never forgot that. Lucky you for Tim's Playlist. My guy's iPad with downloaded songs self-destructed about 2 years ago.
Oh, man...I am so sorry about losing your playlist. Great story about your guy meeting Dolly, though. Every time I hear a story about her, people say the same thing. That she is a genuinely nice person. Appreciate this, Kathy. THANKS! ❤️✌️
I love eating beets, but hate the preparation- even with gloves I end up dyed ( beets are a great natural dye, just not all over my hands & somehow my clothes 😉). I have tried to like Dolly- my dad, mom, and older sister were & are fans of her music, but not me. I have played bits of her rock & roll sampling but even on songs I like or artists I favor, I just can’t.
She’s a national treasure & her heart is always pulling for good in mankind, but I just don’t like her music but I like what she does with her finances from that music. She’s a dichotomy of sorts because she’s always up to her neck in funding causes considered “liberal”, while balancing that country backbone.
As for colonoscopies- my sister had colon cancer surgery (at 40) & is still with us, but since her diagnosis, I have to get one every 4-5 years, lol & I really don’t mind them so much now. I drag my spouse to his which are less frequent & surgical procedures (he has diabetes) but his family doesn’t have colon cancer in their tree (just about everything else, tho’)
Think of you because losing someone to a cancer that has a very good diagnostic procedure & cure afterwards- hurts tremendously. Lost my mom to cancer & cancer SUCKS!
The ex-husband is dying of colon cancer..he had colonoscopies..but he ate a KETO type diet...mostly meat! The diet is the usual culprit in colon cancer...that is a scientific fact. The meat industry does not want this known.
You make a great point here: "she’s always up to her neck in funding causes considered “liberal”, while balancing that country backbone." She does so much good for the world. We need more like her, dont we? And you make me especially happy hearing that you get your testing, Gemini.... because you are so right. Cancer DOES SUCK! If only he had listened to me...I begged and pleaded for him to get his colonoscopy and he always had an excuse. Now, I guess it's my "cause", to encourage people. Tim's death was totally preventable. Thanks so much for being here. I appreciate it. ✌️💙
Dolly is a force of nature. She grew up dirt poor in East Tennessee. She worked her ass off to be a country music star. But she has never forgotten where she came from. She's a genuine and charitable soul, and man, can she sing! Rockstar is a phenomenal album. I hope I'm as dynamic as she is when I hit 78!🤞🤞
Charlie, you're a dynamo! You'll be rockin it well into older age! That Rockstar album is something else...and when I read about her, I was floored. Evidently her father paid a missionary a sack of cornmeal to deliver her! Whatta story... and whatta talent!
During late eighties and early nineties I worked for a satellite uplink company that also provided playback for CMT….this was before Stan Hitchcock sold the channel to Gaylord/Westinghouse….Stan would let the playlist expand into places that could surprise you…read a quote once where Steve Earle referred to this era as when country music had a “Momentary Lapse of Integrity”. At that point in the late eighties was mostly into alt eighties like The Smiths and such…you’re right about becoming more open to different types of music….very thankful that era Earle talked about sent me in multiple directions and that Tim opened up your path too…thanks for the reminder and walk down Memory Lane
Saw Steve Earle a few months back in a local small venue here in Sonoma County. I’ve been a long time fan. WHAT A SHOW. What a talented, heartful, humble guy.
Ahhhh...Steve Earle! Wonderful! John Price... that list goes on! Tim did open up my world... I think it's one of the gifts he gave me that I will always cherish.
I figured ☺️ I have recently been listening, and enjoying, John Prine. I want to thank you, Susan, for turning me on to Dolly’s ‘Shine’. It is marvelous. Although I’ve long been a fan of hers (she has written many, many great songs that others have covered) sadly, life doesn’t afford us time to explore everything. That’s why we rely on one another ❤️
Thats a great thought. "life doesn’t afford us time to explore everything. That’s why we rely on one another" That so true! Have you listened to John Prines last song he recored before he passed from Covid? I cried my eyes out. 😭https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L21Tc_DtL6M
Believe this or not, we had tickets to see him and he passed before the event. I was so bummed. And his last song...Jesus. It's just beautiful! I'm so glad we've been able to share all this! ❤️😘
Well, if only...Of course, I miss him every day. And I have joked, "if he only would have done what I told him to". 😂 But music is a gift he gave me that I'll have forever! Thank you Armand.
Did you know Dolly has a books program for kids up to age 5 with free books on their birthday? She is one amazing cat woman.
Hi Fernie! I learned about her charitable efforts when I did some research for this article. She’s just a kind and wonderful person, isn’t she? What talent!!
Dolly For the Win!

Every single thing you said is true! She’s absolutely a treasure! ❤️✌️
I listen to her version of "I will always love you" at least once a week to get my heart broken.
Oh man… that is a devastating song. 😭
Good one!!
Yeah, beets and Dolly. I'm not a great country music fan but, like you, I never turned my attention to it. But I do like Dolly. What a good posts you offer. Thank you. Nearly 2,000? Congratulations.

the KETO diet is very unhealthy..too much protein and cholesterol

I'm 76, too. I live my life and you live yours and I wish you great health, happiness and prosperity.

Indeed!

Hey, theres an idea! I'll roast them. THANKS Noel! I'm coming around, slowly! 😂😂

Her "Rockstar" album is damned near perfection.
Truly it is, Sean. She's just very dynamic.

Whoa... good to know. 👍

stick to the beets and stay away from the processed and all meats
Congrats on the subscriber amount. I'm getting close to 300. I can't imagine 500 or 1k. That's awesome
Well I wish more were paying but that’s cool. I’m learning a lot! And having fun!
I have a total of 3 paying subscribers. I've been here 5 month. Each one was a pleasant surprise
Right- it’s always nice!!
I like Taylor but I love Dolly!
Same Malcolm! Much respect to Taylor. 😄

Susan Niemann: It is so very human, and so deeply loving, that you are mad at Tim for not seeking timely intervention with colonoscopy.
Of all you write, what is most poignant, what moves me most deeply is your hope for timely medical intervention that instead fell away.
Your writing on Tim is full of deep love and moves me quite deeply.
Well, if only...Of course, I miss him every day. And I have joked, "if he only would have done what I told him to". 😂 But music is a gift he gave me that I'll have forever! Thank you Armand.
