Hi Susan, I am offering my appreciation to you for keeping your community posted on your trip to Alaska. The next best thing to being there! Glad your travels were safe in both directions.
Hey Gary! I had no idea I'd be THAT tired on the return trip! Took almost two days to get back on track. But it was sooooo worth it. Thanks for being here. I really appreciate it!
So happy for you that you were able to spend time there, Susan. Many years ago Ms Spouse and I ran the Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage and really enjoyed our travels there. Also, her relatives are acknowledged on one of the historical kiosks in Anchorage: the first (one of the first?) to connect with the Native Americans in 1922 to establish the fur trade for us newcomers. David Green Furs still exists today.
Hey Matt! Thats so cool. I gotta tell ya, I was just blown away. My friend is a surgeon, so she had the only car most of the time, so I didnt veer too far away from Anchorage but what I was able to see was magnificent. People think I'm crazy when I say I wanted it to snow, but it got into the high 30's while I was there. A heat wave. 😂😂 I'll definitely go back!
If you love cold and snow, (which I do) then this is the state for you, Charles. Just grab a pair of Kahtoolas (mini crampons) and you'll be set! Yes...pull down the Cook statue. I wont tell a soul! 😂😂😂
Beautiful pictures. I can only imagine it's a lot to take in. When I'm in the mountains, I try to absorb the magnificence of this planet. I feel very small and humble. As I should. Rest up. I'm happy for you that you had this wonderful experience. 😘
Hi Lisa!! Alaska is the biggest state in the union...I had no idea how vast. I agree ... it is humbling for sure. Now it's time to rest up for the next adventure. 😂😂 Happy New Year!
Beautiful! I'll put in a plug for Homer on your next visit, 4-5 hours south of Anchorage. That's where my younger son lives. I visited in 2023 and hope to again next year. Incredibly gorgeous! Continued safe travels, Susan.
Hey Cherie! You went believe this but I know someone else from the Midwest whose son lives in Homer! They run a fishing and guiding business. Thats an industry all its own up there! I must go again to see more...Homer, Fairbanks, and Kodiak...all on the list! Thanks so much...and Happy New Year! 💙💙
Hi David.... Anyone will do .... anyone but Cook! 😂 How about the State Animal, the Moose? I was able to see several, munching by the side of the road. It's a magical place, for sure!
The adventurer returns! Glad to hear that you made it home safe and sound. You're gonna be a couple of days recalibrating your body clock. I never realized how colorful fish row could be! (I'll bet that was good!) Cook was an imperialist pig. He shit all over himself in several locales.(Australia, Hawaii, etc.) Actually, that moose is the mayor of Anchorage.😂😂 Enjoy your nap. It's back to the great American shit farm.(Maybe the moose is interested in running for President...Nah! Ms. Kitty would kick his ass!😂😂) Take care and stay in touch.😘😘
I've come back to the lower 48, (or the Americas) as they say up there. I felt a little like I WAS out of the country. The Moose would make a better President, thats a fact! RE: the COOK statue, I guess there is discussion about removing it. They should! Happy New Year...at least Christmas is over, thank God. 🙄
Hi Armand...yes, Club Paris was an exceptional spot. Felt very old school and the food was fabulous! The natural beauty of Alaska was simply breathtaking and I'm grateful to have experienced it. ✌️💙 Happy New Year! :)
I guess you needed a nap! There’s no way I could travel like that anymore. When my kids were young, I drove from Easton PA to Atlanta with 4 little kids in the back seat in one day. I must have been crazy!🤪
With FOUR little kids!!?? You are one brave lady! 😂😂 I feel a bit sad about my stamina. I haven't done a damned thing all day..except unpack my suitcases and love my dogs! I have big plans for tomorrow though! 😂 And then my upcoming drive out east!
Of course you need to rest, simply reading about your travel makes me want a nap. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. You’ll have to tell me about it at lunch when you get to my area.
Love the Alaska pictures and all the cool restaurant/bars. Scenery unbelievable. Makes me want to see it, but I'll just have to life vicariously through you, so live it up!
Thanks Kathy...I'm super grateful for the time there. Without my friend to stay with, I wouldn't have been able to do so much...and yet, there is so much more to do! Ironically, there wasnt a lot of snow the last 3 weeks or so, and the temps got warmer...high 30's. So that made a lot of outdoor activities not as great. Naturally the day I come home, they got a little snow! HAH! I'm looking forward to the next time.
But, you missed the Interior, Fairbanks and Chena Hot Springs, the history at the UAF Museum, and at Pioneer Park (formerly Alaskaland). We lived there for 40 years, long winter nights frequently highlighted by the “lights” aka Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights, the -20 to -60 winter days, and 24-hr summer sunlight catching mosquitoes 🦟 the unofficial state bird. Next time you visit, go back to the Interior, drive from Anchortown thru Denali Park (no DonOld it will remain Denali “the great one”) on your drive to Fairbanks. Or take the train from Anchorage to Fairbanks and pick up your rental car there. There’s a wonderful quilt guild in Anchorage as well as Fairbanks, and many wonderful quilt shops abound.
"Superb restaurant. Perfect Manhattan."
I just knew you appreciated a fine distillation!
There is a reason I grow an acre of heirloom, mid 1800's genetics white corn every year. ;)
👏👏👏So awesome. Thank for sharing!
It was a tremendous experience and I left so much more to see and do!! Happy New Year to you!
And Happy New Year to you! You are doing Twain, Benton and Truman serious Justice, ShowMe girl!
I woulda listed the amazing women from the state, but that's every damn one suffering through this dystopian farce.....
You are the BEST!
I was trying to hide my
cynicism......😜🤷♂️
Well ,thank you... but I just hope we survive it. UGH. Gotta think forward!
Great pictures Susan!
Thank you kindly! So much more to see....I cant wait to go back! ✌️ Happy new Year!!

Great photos. I've never had Alaska on my bucket list but it's on it now. I'll bring a rope and take down the Cook statue before I flee the state!

Love Alaska so Much! Great post! Agree Cook was a shit, but who do you put up there?

Don’t know my Alaska history too well, but how about a native family group? “Alaska. Gateway to the New World” in honor of the First Nations?

Susan Niemann: You deserve Alaska. Beautiful. Looks like you can have a blast at the Club Paris!

No wonder you can't travel like that anymore. Still recovering from that trip with 4 kids!
With FOUR little kids!!?? You are one brave lady! 😂😂 I feel a bit sad about my stamina. I haven't done a damned thing all day..except unpack my suitcases and love my dogs! I have big plans for tomorrow though! 😂 And then my upcoming drive out east!
I need to rest up for that! Hugs, Sharon.

Oh Minnie....I missed SOOOOO MUCH. Not nearly enough time to see it all. I've added your list to mine! Like I said, I could totally live there.
Find any decent seafood? 🤪
Interesting & inspirational! Thanks for sharing!
Thank for reading Anthony. It was a great trip!
